As advised on http://www.debian.org/security/ I have added deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib non-free to /etc/apt/sources.list. I am now proceeding to a security update The following packages will be upgraded: bind9 bind9-host dnsutils file libbind9-0 libcurl3 libdns22 libisc11 libisccc0 libisccfg1 libkrb53 liblwres9 libmagic1 librpcsecgss3 libssl0.9.7 libssl0.9.8 openssl rsync 18 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded. Need to get 8811kB of archives. After unpacking 291kB disk space will be freed. Christian, I believe that nebka is firewalled at 53? Can you get 53 to be opened? Starting bind fails. Investigating... What is 53 good for? I doubt I can get it opened in the firewall, as it is a firewall for the whole machine room (if not the university). Christian Zimmermann FIGUGEGL! bind, for running name servers, i.e. something that says where *.repec.org is, in terms of ip address

usually a firewall is configurable per machine. But bind does not work, it's a permission problem with the pid file. I am comparing with a healthy installation but have not found the problem yet. If I run bind as root, I don't get the problem. I think I will leave it this way for now. There are other cats to flog. Cheers, Thomas Krichel http://openlib.org/home/krichel RePEc:per:1965-06-05:thomas_krichel mostly offline 2007-11-01 to 20007-11-18 skype: thomaskrichel
