RAS upgrade tomorrow, Dec 13 2011

Hi, In accord with what we have discussed previously, I want to and plan to do upgrade RAS to the recent ACIS version tomorrow. It is a good time for another round of testing of the version installed at http://ras.openlib.org/ -- if anyone is available. Specifically, it is very needed to test the new user registrations. I'm not sure anyone has tried that at all on this version. If anyone helps me with testing, and no blocker issues are found, i'll go on with the upgrade at about 9am UTC on Dev 13, which is about midnight time on nebka server. Basically, I'll wait for the end of the nightly script and start upgrade. I'll plan the upgrade in more detail now. -ivan

hi all, The upgrade went fine, so far. The new version of ACIS is online at http://authors.repec.org/ for approx. 4 hours now, and it seems to be running well. I've enabled automatic profile update in a limited mode (2 profiles per run, 4 profiles per hour). Initially, i've found a number of small glitches and have fixed them. I see lots of users coming in and modifying their profiles and leaving the site. I don't see any issues or errors so far. Update daemon seems to be working okay too. I'm still monitoring the logs and checking this and that, but it seems ok. -ivan

APU

Christian & all, I've done testing of the automatic profile update, both research profile and citations, with some fixes. Today I've removed some pieces from the Christian's profile (by hand) and ran APU for him. This resulted in two mails sent. Christian, please check it. If things look good, i suggest to finally upgrade the production RAS system. -ivan

log rotate in /home/aras/opt on nebka

Would it be possible to archive log files by appending the archive date before filing instead of using log rotate? If the date is appended, the file never changes again and I can rsync the directory easily. If the files are archived with log rotate, over 3000 files in /home/aras/opt/oldlog get renamed and rsync has to copy every file each time.

showing password in emails

Christian, am I right that the automatic processing mails must not contain the user's password? this phrase: Your password in our service is: ...... should I remove it? -i

admin in disguise feature

Hi, As a part of part 1 of my work for ACIS this fall/winter, I've added a feature to let administrators to find a user's profile by short-id or email address (login), enter it and modify it. I've implemented this as follows: - only certain users are given this ability. The userdata file of the user has to be modified to allow the feature. (one has to add the /owner/type/admin key and set it to a non-zero value). - admin users have a special admin tools menu at the bottom of their welcome screen, right after login. http://screencast.com/t/Lv29WXvXlif This menu is based on the menu we used to show on the /adm/* screens, but reworked for clarity and ease. - the "search for personal records" link leads to a very simple form, which asks for a short-id or an email address: http://screencast.com/t/hmAu58zR8Umy - search results are shown in a simple table: http://screencast.com/t/kuRk4266 - clicking on the green link in the email column would directly take the admin into that person's account: http://screencast.com/t/MZWLikG7XO - But the page top, where it normally offers the "settings" link and "log out", is different in this case: http://screencast.com/t/hEdix2095p - ie. it clearly says that it is the 'admin in disguise', no settings link, but an additional person search link is offered.
