Just kidding, it passed Saturday morning unscathed. And I am on campus...

Names changes, but are always identical for first, middle and last names,
IPs change, emails change, but are always of hotmail/gmail/yahoo and have
a composite name with some digits. It never gets past the first screen.
To me this looks like some robot trying to register (much like what I see
on our blog) in order to get posting priviledges. This is not something
that we need to worry about as the following registration pages are very
specific to us. But we should keep this in mind for any further
development that registration should stay robot safe.

I think this crises has shown that is possible to build another
(slave) root disk, and then basically exchange disks when the master
disk fails.
I propose to proceed with such an arrangement.
CZ buys a new disk, puts it in there, in place of the
current 80, and then we mirror every day all files from
the master to the slave. In an emergency, we replace
master and slave and we are done.
In addition, we should keep an extrenal backup. One
is now being kept on snefru. When we have a slave
disk, the external backup can be made from the slave
disk, saving I/O on the master.

Oh come on what a about the Swiss army endurance training,
has it already lost its impact?

I have not only launched it, I have set up a script that
will launch rid at machine start.
I would like to upgrade the webserver to apache2.
On the other hand, I am not sure about the persistent
perl. So maybe better to just leave it as is, or
wait until Ivan comes along. Or I can test it
a little later.
Apache 1 is now obsolete. It needs to be
replaced by apache2 either now, or in an
extra downtime later. I am converting nep
later today, can do ras too and test from
the local machine.

/etc/init.d/apache started just normal.
The swap should go to /dev/sda2, I have set in up this
way.
I have reboot now. rid starts automatically, so does
apache1. swap work, dmesg shows no service error,
just tons of acpi gripes.

I am not sure what you mean by this "openlib email".

It works fine, for this list and for nep-editors.

I have installed the rid start script, I have moved mirrored
users aacis and adrepec from /home to /opt, and I am in the
process of backing up to snefru. The move of mirrored users
from /home/ to /opt avoids these users being mirror.
I haev updated the xslt library that was on hold. This
library's recent versions work very well with the ACIS
xslt code, I have had no problems on authorclaim.
The next thing is to udgrade apache to apache2. I am
starting with this now.

disk /dev/sda 80G needs to be replaced by the 140G disk.
1. Boot into single user mode.
2. Mount root disk read-only
mount -o ro,remount /dev/sda1
3. Check disk with badblock check
e2fsck -c -y /dev/sda1
4. reboot into single use
5. make sure sdb1 is mounted as /vol
6. rsync to /vol
rsync -va --exclude /vol --exclude /proc --exclude /sys / /vol
7. install grub
grub-install --root-directory /vol/boot/grub /dev/sdb1
8. shutdown machine, exchange disk sda and sdb.
9. fiddle with bios so that it boots from what was sdb, now sda.
Good luck!
